On HR 5843 Ron Paul stands with Democrats like Barney Frank

House Resolution 5843 is a bill designed to allow the legal possession of up to 100 grams of marijuana. It would still be illegal to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence but it is not legal to drink and drive as well.

The bill seems to be a good idea. It would prevent the trial and incarceration of countless people who did not commit a victim crime. In fact other crimes would probably decrease as well because this would prevent the crimes that are part of a restricted item.

But when looking at the supporters of the bill something struck me. Barney Franks is the sponsor of the bill that is still to go to committee. There are 7 co-sponsors. Here they are:

Rep. Tammy Baldwin [D-WI]
Rep. Earl Blumenauer [D-OR]
Rep. William Clay [D-MO]
Rep. Barbara Lee [D-CA]
Rep. Zoe Lofgren [D-CA]
Rep. James McDermott [D-WA]
Rep. Ronald Paul [R-TX]

Ron Paul is last. But look at the list a bit more. All are Democrats except Ron Paul. This bill makes sense, would reduce the prison population, and might even let people enjoy their free time if thats what they want to do.

But the only person to break party ranks again is Ron Paul. He votes for you, he votes for freedom, and he votes his conscience.

One of the reasons the media and liberal bloggers took such a fervent dislike to Ron Paul is because he is conservative but able to associate with both sides of the political spectrum.

One progressive blogger took to outing liberals that were shifting their votes to Ron Paul. How terrible when someone supports someone that they like and feel is the best candidate. And who can blame them when presented with the incredibly weak, flawed characters that are McCain, Clinton, and Obama?

One way that Ron Paul differentiates himself is when he is the endorsed member of the Republican Liberty Caucus that he has been a member of for some time. This is a group that aims to protect liberty from the excess of government intervention.

Does your candidate support your personal freedom? Do they vote for bills that protect you and wont create a prison system of people smoking something safer than alcohol and tobacco like marijuana?
